Runic modifiers

A tool's slots are empty when it leaves the station. Seven runes fill them, empty them, reroll them or freeze them, and none gives a certain result except the ones that destroy.

In short

A modifier is a randomly rolled stat, with a value rolled inside a range.

The roll is bound by two caps the tool's quality imposes: how many slots exist, up to 4, and how high a value can climb, at best bracket 10.

The loop is therefore a negotiation with chance. You add, you look, you reroll what disappoints, and above all you lock what is good: among the seven runes, binding puts a modifier out of reach of every destructive rune.

Four stats out of seven require a target: a resource, an area or a job. A tool cannot carry the same stat twice on the same target.

The seven stats

Every stat is cut into the same 10 brackets, wide at the bottom and narrow at the top. Only the range they span changes.

  • Resource targets depend on the tool type: a pickaxe aims at ores, an axe at woods, a shovel at soils. The perfect prism is offered to every type, it is the most contested target.

The seven runes

Three families: those that add, those that reroll, those that remove. Binding stands apart, it changes nothing and protects everything.

Addition

Adds a random modifier in an empty slot.

Adds
Focus

Adds a modifier while choosing the stat type, or rewrites a chosen slot when the tool is full.

Adds
Shifting

Rerolls one precise modifier.

Rerolls
Calibration

Rerolls the values without touching the types.

Rerolls
Ascension

Raises a modifier's power by one bracket.

Improves
Binding

Locks a modifier: nothing can remove or reroll it any more.

Protects
Removal

Removes one random unlocked modifier.

What quality allows

The two caps cannot be worked around. An ascension rune on a modifier already at the tool's maximum bracket fails, and so does an addition rune on a tool with no free slot.

Quality Slots Maximum bracket
Common 00 · no modifier
Uncommon 12 / 10
Rare 24 / 10
Epic 36 / 10
Legendary 48 / 10
Mythic 410 / 10
  • Bracket 10 is out of reach for every crafted tool. It exists for items that do not come out of a station.
