Encounters

Encounters

Encounters are surprise events that appear as you play — server-wide comets shower up to three players with loot, while personal encounters like wandering merchants, chest hunts and wild pets play out just for you.

Overview

Encounters are surprise events that appear as you play. Some are shared with the whole server, others are yours alone — but they all show up organically from your messages, no command required.

Every encounter is claimed by clicking its buttons. Server administrators decide whether encounters are active and which channels host the server-wide ones.

How encounters work

Encounters come in two flavours, depending on who they're for.

Server comets

Shared
  • Fall in the channels your admins configure, for the whole server to see.
  • Up to 3 players can each claim one of the comet's drops.
  • Require at least 50 members, and fall more often as the server's encounter structure grows — from once every sixteen hours down to once every three.

Personal encounters

Just for you
  • Trigger from your own messages and are targeted at you alone.
  • Respect a personal cooldown of six hours between appearances.
  • Only show up while the server owner has encounters enabled.

Personal encounters

Personal encounters are little interactive moments that pop up as you play. Each one is a self-contained mini-experience — no one else can touch it.

Wandering Merchant

Mini-game

A traveling trader offers a one-time deal: spend one resource to receive another — sometimes even a piece of rare gear.

Chest Hunt

Mini-game

A 5×5 press-your-luck grid. Open chests one at a time to auto-stack loot. A hidden mimic devours everything, while clearing every real chest banks the full haul — there's nothing to cash out, only your nerve.

Wild Pet

Mini-game

A region-appropriate wild pet appears. Throw a craftable capture orb to catch it — the odds depend on the orb, the pet's level, and any catch-rate treat you've eaten. A successful catch adds the pet to your collection.

Comet drops

When a server comet lands it rolls three drops from the pool below, weighted by rarity and gated by your server's tier. Up to three players can each claim one.

Server growth

Server comets grow with your community. The bigger and more established your server, the more often comets fall and the richer their drop pool becomes.

50+ members

Comets only start falling once your server passes the member threshold.

Tiered drops

Rarer drop types unlock as the server's encounter structure levels up, all the way to the top drop tier.

Faster spawns

Larger servers see comets appear more frequently.

Commands

Server administrators manage comets with these commands.

/ebencounters status Check the current comet status and tier for your server.
/ebencounters enable Enable comets for your server (requires admin).
/ebencounters disable Disable comets for your server (requires admin).
/ebencounters channels Choose which channels receive comet drops (requires admin).
Personal encounters follow the same switch: while encounters are enabled for the server, they can appear for any member as they play.
